This beautiful Tree peony, thought to be Japanese, has huge flowers, easily 20cm in diameter. The flares are large, givng the flower most of its colour. As it ages the edge part of the petals becomes pure white. The filaments are pink at the base, lightening to white where they meet the stamens.
The sheath is purple, perhaps a little darker than the base of the flare. The stigma is pink with a creamy-yellow edge. The carpels beneath the sheath are pale green.
