Hephestos
A Tree Peony by Daphnis in 1977. Its parentage is ‘Thunderbolt’ X Unnamed Saunders hybrid F2(A) - a fertile hybrid of lutea. The flowers are about 20cms in diameter and the plant reaches a meter in height. In habit it tends to be upright and is free flowering once established. Unfortunately its tall stems tend to be weighted down by the flowers and have been snapped off by winds on more than one occasion. The flowers are superb in form and colour. Winner of the prestigious American Peony Society Gold Medal in 2009, and deservedly so! Plant Source: Carlo Salvi
