Companion of Serenity
A Tree peony by Gratwick made before 1960. No details of its parentage appear to be available. It forms a large vigorous shrub with 15cm flowers which bear a lot of resemblance to Saygio Sakura, although the flares on the Japanese plant are much larger and it has pale markings on the back of the petals, not present in Gratwick’s hybrid. In addition, Companion of Serenity has attractively crinkled petals. These photos are of cut flowers, the cutting necessitated by very windy weather which made photographing them on the plant impossible.
